Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Chief (Mrs.) Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo, wife of the late former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo.
In a condolence message released on Tuesday, Daniel said he received the news of Mama Lucia’s passing with profound sadness but with complete submission to the will of Almighty God. The revered matriarch reportedly died on Monday, January 12, 2026, after a long, fulfilled life that spanned over a century.
Describing her as a woman of grace, dignity and unwavering faith, the former governor noted that Mama Lucia lived an exemplary life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, firmly rooted in strong family values and moral uprightness.
Daniel recalled that Mama Lucia stood steadfastly beside her husband, Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo—widely regarded as one of Ogun State’s most principled leaders—quietly playing a significant role in nurturing a family whose legacy remains deeply etched in the political and moral history of the state.
According to him, her life was defined by humility, resilience and service, virtues that will continue to inspire generations of the Onabanjo family and all who encountered her.
On behalf of his family, the people of Ogun East Senatorial District and the entire people of Ogun State, Daniel extended heartfelt condolences to the Onabanjo family, praying that God grants them strength and comfort in this moment of irreparable loss.
While mourning her departure, the senator expressed gratitude to God for a life well spent, praying that Mama Lucia’s soul finds eternal rest and that her enduring legacy remains a blessing to many.
