Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has submitted three names to the Adamawa State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as commissioners, in what appears to be a swift move to fill emerging vacancies in his cabinet.
The nominations were forwarded on Tuesday, barely 24 hours after the Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, Adamu Atiku Abubakar, publicly announced his resignation.
Adamu Atiku stepped down after reportedly refusing to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move taken by many members of the governor’s cabinet.

The three commissioner nominees presented to the Assembly are:
Sali Idris (Maiha Local Government Area)
Muhammed Suleiman (Mubi North Local Government Area)
Chubado Mohammed (Jada Local Government Area)
During plenary, Speaker Bathiya Wesley directed the Clerk of the House to notify the nominees to appear for screening with their curriculum vitae on Monday, March 9, 2026.
Adamu Atiku was one of three commissioners said to have rejected the idea of defecting to the APC. The others include the Commissioner for Livestock Development and the Commissioner for Justice, Tijjani Maksha and Afraimu Jingi.

While only Adamu Atiku has officially confirmed his resignation, the governor’s submission of three fresh names has fueled speculation that the other two commissioners may have also exited the administration or are presumed to have done so.
The development signals a significant shift within the Adamawa State Executive Council as political realignments continue to reshape the state’s governance landscape.
