Egbaliganza 2026 Unveils Africa’s First Culture & Fashion Exchange, Set to Host 50 Nations in Abeokuta

A landmark cultural initiative, Egbaliganza 2026, has been officially unveiled as Africa’s first Culture and Fashion Exchange, positioning Abeokuta as a global hub for heritage, creativity, and economic collaboration.

The announcement was made at a high-profile press conference held in Ogun State, ahead of the main event scheduled for March 28, 2026, as part of the prestigious Lisabi Festival.

Now in its third year, Egbaliganza has evolved from a local cultural showcase into a continental platform inspired by the legacy of Lisabi Agbongboakala and backed by the royal authority of the Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo.

Convener of the initiative, Lai Labode, described Egbaliganza as a strategic cultural engine aimed at promoting unity, identity, and economic growth within Egbaland and across Africa.

“Egbaliganza was conceived as a living monument to Lisabi and a platform to amplify Egba heritage while creating new economic opportunities,” Labode stated.

The 2026 edition is expected to host delegations from over 50 countries, bringing together governments, cultural institutions, designers, artisans, investors, and members of the African diaspora for a multi-day cultural convergence.

Key highlights of the programme include the Parade of Nations, a global cultural showcase; the Walk of Heroes and Walk of Kings; fashion runways and hackathons spotlighting indigenous textiles such as Adire and Aso-Oke; and the unveiling of the symbolic Unity Drum.

The event will also feature the “Oja Egbaliganza” exhibition, showcasing centuries-old garments and artefacts, alongside performances by an 80-man orchestral band and a grand finale gala themed “Flame of a Continent.”

Organisers emphasised the economic potential of the initiative, noting that previous editions boosted hotel occupancy, empowered local artisans, and enhanced global visibility for Nigerian creatives. The 2026 edition is projected to attract over $2 million in diaspora investment and drive growth within Africa’s fashion and cultural industries.

In a significant development, Egbaliganza also secured official recognition for the Lisabi Festival from the Federal Ministry of Arts Culture and the Creative Economy, strengthening its national and international profile.

With its ambitious scope, Egbaliganza 2026 is set to transform Abeokuta into a cultural capital, fostering deeper connections between Africa and its diaspora while showcasing the continent’s rich heritage on a global stage.
