Dowen College waste violation has triggered swift enforcement from the Lagos State Government, as the prestigious school in Lekki Phase 1 was sealed over alleged improper waste disposal.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the action on Wednesday via X (formerly Twitter), stating that the government will not tolerate any disregard for environmental laws, especially by high-profile institutions.
“Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, in collaboration with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, sealed Dowen College for indiscriminate waste disposal,” Wahab wrote.
The clampdown followed a video posted Tuesday by the commissioner, where an unidentified man, apprehended for illegal waste dumping, admitted working with Dowen College. Investigations led officials to trace the violation back to the school premises.
Calling the act unacceptable, Wahab noted, “We will not hesitate to take firm action against any institution that violates our waste management regulations. Lagos must remain clean, safe, and healthy for all residents.”
The government’s decisive move sends a clear message that environmental responsibility is not optional, regardless of an institution’s status or influence.
With mounting concerns about sanitation across Lagos, officials say enforcement will intensify in the coming weeks.
Wahab also directed the Corps Marshal to ensure continued compliance monitoring across schools and organizations citywide.
