Governor Dauda Lawal has been honoured with the prestigious Infrastructure Governor of the Year award by the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria, in recognition of his administration’s sweeping urban renewal and infrastructure transformation across Zamfara State.
The award was presented at the second edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards held at the NAF Conference Centre, drawing top government officials, media stakeholders, and industry leaders.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the honour reflects Zamfara’s remarkable progress in infrastructure development, marking a significant milestone beyond the broadcasting sector.

Other high-profile awardees at the 2026 ceremony included Bassey Otu, Uba Sani, and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris. Media and industry figures such as John Momoh, Shyngle Wigwe, Abubakar Jijiwa, and Sa’a Ibrahim were also recognised.
Established in 1973, the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria serves as the umbrella body for both public and private broadcasters, with a mandate to uphold high standards and promote professionalism in the industry.

The awards followed a rigorous, months-long selection process led by a committee chaired by Danladi Bako, alongside representatives from the National Broadcasting Commission and the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria.
The committee cited Governor Lawal’s wide-ranging achievements as key to his selection, highlighting his administration’s efforts in transforming Gusau into a modern urban centre. Among the landmark projects is the construction of a new international airport, alongside extensive urban renewal initiatives.
The administration has also made significant investments in healthcare and education, including the construction and upgrading of general hospitals, as well as the building, rehabilitation, and equipping of over 800 schools across Zamfara’s 14 local government areas.
BON noted that the recognition underscores the scale of development recorded in the state and is expected to further spur the governor’s commitment to rebuilding and advancing Zamfara.
