The Nigeria Customs Service and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation are deepening collaboration to increase national revenue and improve the skills of Customs officers
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is set to enhance its partnership with the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) with the aim of significantly boosting national revenue and elevating the training standards for its personnel.

This initiative follows a reported substantial increase in the Customs Service’s revenue generation.

The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, warmly received the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, during a courtesy visit to the Customs House in Maitama, Abuja, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
During the meeting, CGC Adeniyi underscored the pivotal role of the Accountant-General’s office in the effective management of national revenue.

He hailed the visit as “a timely, symbolic and remarkable move towards tying fiscal collaboration between the two government institutions.”
In a statement shared on the Customs official X (formerly Twitter) handle today, CGC Adeniyi acknowledged the current economic challenges facing the nation, particularly in the realm of public revenue generation.
He assured the AGF of the NCS’s unwavering commitment to tackling these challenges through the implementation of strategic innovations and a steadfast dedication to operational discipline.
“We have seen how critical revenue generation is in this country, and we are doing our best from our part,” the CGC affirmed.
He further highlighted the Service’s recent achievements, stating, “Looking at how the Service was able to increase its revenue by over 70% before the end of 2024, it is a demonstration of our resolve to support the government’s financial stability.”
This collaboration has just started, and I want to assure you that it is going to be robust.
CGC Adeniyi also extended his congratulations to AGF Ogunjimi on his appointment and commended his proactive stance on fostering collaboration between government agencies.
Responding to the AGF’s proposal for a joint training program for staff from both the NCS and the OAGF, CGC Adeniyi enthusiastically welcomed the idea.
He pledged the full support of the Customs Service, emphasizing that such a program would significantly contribute to capacity building and enhanced inter-agency cooperation.
Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, expressed his sincere appreciation to the NCS leadership for the warm reception.
He stated that he was “delighted to witness the proactive and strategic leadership style of the CGC.”
“This collaboration has just started, and I want to assure you that it is going to be robust,” AGF Ogunjimi remarked.
He further proposed, “I also wish to request that we bring on board some of your officers to our office to be engaged in training that will strengthen inter-agency understanding and cooperation.”
AGF Ogunjimi reiterated his office’s strong commitment to strengthening institutional linkages, emphasizing that this collaborative effort would promote greater accountability, transparency, and robust capacity building within Nigeria’s public financial architecture.
