Five hundred secondary school students from public schools across Lagos State have received an unexpected Christmas boost as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Obasa, fulfilled his promise of ₦100,000 cash gift to each of them.
The promise was made in November during activities marking Speaker Obasa’s birthday, where students from the state’s six education districts were invited to celebrate with him. The announcement of the cash gift sparked excitement among the students, many of whom described the gesture as life-changing.

The fulfillment of the promise was confirmed by Dr. (Mrs.) Sherifat Abiodun Adedoyin, a member of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB). She stated that the ₦100,000 disbursement to each of the 500 students was successfully completed, noting that the gesture reflects Speaker Obasa’s commitment to education and youth development.
According to Adedoyin, the Speaker’s decision to honour the pledge underscores his dedication to improving the welfare of students and supporting public education in Lagos State. The cash gift, she added, has given the beneficiaries a memorable festive season and renewed hope for their academic pursuits.

Parents, teachers and education stakeholders have since commended the Speaker for keeping his word and investing directly in the lives of young learners across the state.
