Comedian and actor Basketmouth voiced his frustration over Nigeria’s economic decline, citing rising inflation and the naira’s depreciation since 1970.
In a viral interview with AFRIMMA, he argued that policies have failed to improve the country’s economic situation, sarcastically claiming that the idea of improvement is a “pipe dream.”
Popular comedian, actor, and music executive Bright Okpocha, better known as Basketmouth, has expressed his deep frustration with Nigeria’s current economic and leadership challenges.

In a viral interview with AFRIMMA, the comedian explained why he believes Nigeria can never get better, highlighting inflation and the long-term depreciation of the naira.
Basketmouth cited the drastic fall in the value of the naira since 1970 as a key indicator of the country’s economic decline.
“In 1970, the year I was born, it was one naira to a dollar. Now it’s N1600 to a dollar,” he said, pointing out that the naira has never regained its former value. “Every time it changes, people say ‘E go better,’ but it only gets worse,” he remarked.
The comedian also criticised government policies, suggesting that they are designed to cause suffering. He specifically mentioned the recent increase in passport fees, suggesting the government is profiting from people’s desire to leave the country.
Despite his frustrations, Basketmouth sarcastically stated that while some people still hold onto the hope that Nigeria will improve, he believes that dream is over.
