The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Network West Africa has formally secured approval to change its name from APC Youth Wing West Africa, following constitutional directives from the party’s national leadership.
In a statement released on Sunday, the group confirmed it had completed its transition after receiving clearance from the APC National Secretariat. A formal letter validating the name change has been issued, cementing its recognition as an official support group rather than a statutory organ of the party.
According to the statement, the decision followed a series of structured engagements with the party leadership to ensure strict compliance with the APC Constitution.

The repositioning was further shaped by a high-level meeting between the group’s Director-General and APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda. During the engagement, the importance of constitutional conformity was emphasised, prompting the adjustment from “Youth Wing” to “Youth Network” to accurately reflect its support group status.
Hon. Gideon Olatunde Igbasan, Director-General of the APC Youth Network West Africa, said the change strengthens structural alignment with party guidelines while reinforcing a coordinated regional youth mobilisation strategy.

Igbasan expressed appreciation to the APC leadership for guiding the process, including National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, National Secretary Ajibola Basiru, National Youth Leader Dayo Israel, Director of Administration Ayoola Olajolo, and Head of Support Group/Mobilisation Alhaji Salisu Yahaya Alfa.
He reaffirmed that while the name has changed, the group’s mission, leadership structure, and commitment to supporting the APC’s Renewed Hope Agenda remain intact.
The group currently operates functional secretariats in Accra, Ghana; Lomé, Togo; and Cotonou, Benin Republic, with a new office set to open soon in Ikeja, Lagos.
Plans are also underway to expand operations into additional West African countries as part of its broader regional outreach.
Leadership described the approval as a significant milestone in deepening constitutional compliance, strengthening institutional coordination, and advancing disciplined youth engagement within the APC’s recognised support framework across West Africa.
