In a statement issued by its Primate, The Most Rev’d Henry Ndukuba, the Church described the election as a “serious departure from biblical teaching” that threatens the unity and doctrinal integrity of the Anglican Communion.

Quoting 2 Timothy 4:3-4, Ndukuba criticized the decision, saying it reveals that many within the Church “can’t endure sound doctrine.”
He further accused Bishop Vann of promoting same-sex marriage, a divisive issue in the Communion.

The Church of Nigeria declared it will not recognize Vann’s election, emphasizing its commitment to traditional biblical teachings.
This rejection highlights ongoing tensions between conservative and liberal factions within the global Anglican Church, particularly over sexuality and doctrine.
