Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former APC National Chairman, has expressed confidence that the merger between the ADC and the Obidient Movement could unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
Odigie-Oyegun made the statement on Monday in Benin during a mass defection of Obidient Movement members into the ADC in Edo State, weeks after former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi formally joined the party.

Welcoming the influx, Odigie-Oyegun said the move reflected the readiness of Nigerians—particularly the youth—to take part in the struggle for leadership change and national renewal.
“The calibre of individuals joining the ADC reinforces the belief that a new Nigeria is achievable,” he said. “A few days ago, Dele Momodu joined us, and today I see youths genuinely committed to nation-building. We are convinced that the youth of this country are ready.”

He described the Obidient Movement’s decision to join the ADC as a deliberate step to take ownership of the national change agenda.
“You have decided to take up the struggle yourselves by joining the ADC, and I am happy. From the day this coalition came together, I was convinced that we are on the right path,” Odigie-Oyegun said.
Asemota Idiogbe, Edo State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, said the ADC provided the strongest platform to challenge the APC at both state and national levels.
“This is the right party to battle the APC in Edo and Nigeria. ADC will take over Edo and the country,” Idiogbe stated, expressing optimism that the party would field Peter Obi as its presidential candidate in 2027.
Kenneth Odion, Edo State Chairman of the ADC, described the merger as a boost for the party’s electoral prospects, while State Woman Leader Faith Ebodaghe urged women to actively participate in the political struggle.
“The ADC is on a rescue mission. We are the David sent to confront Goliath. With our voter cards, we will bring down the APC,” she said.
The Obidient Movement had played a pivotal role in Peter Obi’s strong showing in the 2023 presidential election, where he finished third behind APC’s Bola Tinubu and PDP’s Atiku Abubakar.
