Adamawa State HOS declares anti-corruption fight meaningless without increasing workers wages

Adamawa State Head of Service (HoS), Dr. Edgar Amos Sunday, has declared that the Federal Government war against corruption cannot be meaningful unless the workers wages are reviewed.Edgar made the declaration yesterday in his hometown, Dumne, in Song Local Council Area of Adamawa State at a reception in his honour.

The event was organised by Yungur Area Development Association to mark his new appointment as HoS.According to him, it is important to improve workers wages because politicians cannot loot public funds without the civil servants aiding them through falsification of documents. He disclosed that one of the cardinal points that tempt workers to assist politicians to commit financial fraud is the fact that they are poorly paid.

Edgar lamented that workers who are the engine room of revenue generation in the country, and who execute government policies are not paid salaries that are commensurate with their job performance.

The new HoS urged all tiers of government to consider a new package for workers, if the anti-corruption war must be a success. He said: “There is less corruption in the private sectors, because the package for their workers is good enough as it takes care of their basic needs as clothing, shelter, medical, feeding and transportation.

“Nigerian civil servants lack all these important needs that workers deserve, so government must look into them for the war against corruption to succeed.”Speaking at the occasion, Governor Muhammed Jibrilla Bindow, pleaded with all the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s stakeholders, whom he has offended, to forgive him and support his second term agenda.

The governor has been at war with President Muhammadu Buhari’s supporters group in the state, among them: former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Mr. David Babachir Lawal, and former Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu. Others are former Lagos State military administrator, Brig-Gen Buba Marwa (rtd), as well as former governor Murtala Nyako and others.

He appealed to them to drop their weapons against him in the interest of the state. Bindow urged the group to place the general interest of Adamawa people above individual benefits, adding that he is ready to cooperate with everybody, provided that the interest of the people comes first. He appealed to them to drop their weapons against him in the interest of the state.
