Adeleke Withdraws EFCC Suit, Praises Tinubu for Stepping In

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has withdrawn the lawsuit filed against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the freezing of the state government’s bank account ahead of the recently concluded governorship election.

Adeleke had previously challenged the anti-graft agency’s decision to obtain a court order freezing the account, describing the action as politically motivated and capable of disrupting government activities.

The development followed President Bola Tinubu’s directive to the EFCC to lift the restriction and discontinue the related legal proceedings after concerns emerged over the timing of the action.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics shortly after being declared winner of the Osun governorship election, Adeleke disclosed that he had instructed the state Attorney General to withdraw the case against the EFCC.

According to the governor, President Tinubu’s intervention resolved the matter, prompting him to move past the dispute.

“I’m putting them behind. What else do I want? I have instructed my Attorney General to drop it. Mr President has done well. He called me. What more do I want?” Adeleke said.

The governor also addressed allegations that some of his supporters and government officials were being invited by the EFCC for questioning. He stated that he had directed his legal team to assist those involved and insisted that his administration had nothing to hide.

Adeleke further defended President Tinubu, arguing that the President was not aware of some actions attributed to federal agencies.

“Most of these things, the President doesn’t know. The President has a lot of foreign work and jobs to do,” he said.

The governor revealed that some of his aides, including officials within his administration, were questioned by the EFCC but later released after no wrongdoing was established.

Describing the invitations as unnecessary distractions, Adeleke alleged that former Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, influenced the actions because of his relationship with the President.

He maintained that Tinubu was unaware of the EFCC account freeze and acted swiftly once informed of the situation.
