Remo Secondary School (RSS), Ogun State, has made history by hosting its first university-style graduation ceremony for the Class of 2026, setting a new benchmark for public secondary schools in Nigeria.

The valedictory ceremony featured graduating students dressed in academic gowns, caps and other graduation regalia, creating an atmosphere similar to a university convocation. School principals, teachers and members of the National Executive of the Remo Secondary School Old Students’ Association (RSSOSA) also wore academic gowns, adding grandeur to the event.

The ceremony attracted parents, teachers, alumni, school administrators and other distinguished guests who gathered to celebrate the graduating students’ academic achievements and transition to higher education.

Beyond celebrating academic success, the event recognised students who demonstrated outstanding character, discipline and moral excellence. Awards were presented across different categories to honour students who excelled in both academics and personal conduct.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of full higher education scholarships to about 25 deserving students by the Hope Bridge Social Impact Foundation. The scholarships are expected to support the beneficiaries in pursuing tertiary education.

Speaking at the event, the President of RSSOSA, Sir Aare Adetola Emmanuelking KOF, congratulated the graduating students and commended the school management, teachers and parents for their dedication to nurturing the students.

He also praised the Ogun State Government under Governor Dapo Abiodun for prioritising education through various initiatives, particularly the Yellow Revolution programme, which he said has improved learning conditions across public schools in the state.

Emmanuelking further acknowledged the contributions of the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, towards advancing education in Ogun State.

The event also showcased the strong relationship between the school and its alumni, with members of RSSOSA reaffirming their commitment to supporting the institution’s growth and development.

The university-style graduation ceremony is expected to become one of the school’s defining traditions and could inspire similar celebrations in public secondary schools across Ogun State and Nigeria.
