Members of the Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) have finalised arrangements for a nationwide protest scheduled for May 9, 2026, in response to alleged plans to commercialise or dispose of assets belonging to Federal Unity Colleges.
The demonstration, described as an “awareness walk,” will be held simultaneously in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano, and is expected to attract thousands of alumni from across the country.
The planned protest follows mounting concern within USOSA over reports that critical assets of the colleges may be slated for sale—an action stakeholders warn could erode the founding principles of the institutions.

Organised under the theme “Pro Unitate – Better Together,” the rally aims to spotlight what alumni describe as a growing threat to the legacy of Unity Schools.
A senior member of the association, speaking anonymously, stressed that the issue goes beyond infrastructure, touching on the preservation of national values.
“Unity Schools were established to foster national integration and a shared identity. Any attempt to tamper with their assets raises serious concerns about the future of that vision,” the source said.
What began as internal conversations among alumni has since evolved into a coordinated advocacy campaign, with digital mobilisation already underway to build momentum ahead of the protest.
Coordinators in the three host cities are reportedly putting final touches on logistics to ensure a peaceful demonstration.
Observers note that the action could signal a broader shift in alumni engagement, as members move from passive concern to organised civic participation on national issues.
USOSA has reiterated that Unity Schools remain enduring symbols of national cohesion and should not be treated as commercial assets.
