Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has hailed workers as the backbone of Lagos’ thriving economy, as Nigeria marks International Workers’ Day on May 1.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Dave Agboola, Obasa praised the resilience, dedication, and sacrifices of workers across Lagos and Nigeria, noting that their unwavering commitment continues to sustain economic growth and productivity in the state.
According to the Speaker, Lagos’ remarkable progress over the years is a direct reflection of the tireless efforts of its workforce, whom he described as indispensable to the state’s development.
Obasa also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for recent initiatives aimed at improving workers’ welfare, including salary adjustments and policy reforms. He described these efforts as timely and indicative of the administration’s resolve to enhance the living standards of Nigerian workers.

“As we celebrate Workers’ Day, I salute the men and women whose labour forms the backbone of our society. Your contributions are invaluable, and your sacrifices continue to inspire the vision of a Lagos built on fairness, innovation, and opportunity,” Obasa stated.
He further assured that the Lagos State House of Assembly remains committed to enacting legislation that protects workers’ rights, improves welfare, and fosters sustainable economic growth. The Speaker encouraged workers to remain hopeful and steadfast, emphasizing that their role is crucial in shaping a brighter future for both Lagos State and Nigeria.
