President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Professor Emeritus Abiola Odejide on the occasion of her 80th birthday, commending her remarkable scholarship, pioneering milestones, and lifelong contributions to national development.
In a statement released on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President lauded the distinguished academic for her far-reaching impact on education and her steadfast advocacy for gender inclusion in Nigeria.
Professor Odejide, an eminent scholar in English and Literary Studies, broke new ground as the first female Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University of Ibadan, where she served between 2004 and 2006. She also holds the distinction of being Nigeria’s first Professor of Children’s Literature and is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters.

President Tinubu highlighted her influential work in Communication and Language Arts, noting that it has shaped generations of scholars and students across the country.
He described her contributions to gender mainstreaming as deeply impactful, stating that her advocacy has left a lasting imprint on Nigeria’s academic landscape.

The President further praised her dedication to cultural advancement and educational excellence, emphasizing that her career embodies values that promote unity, progress, and intellectual growth.
“As a trailblazer and role model, your legacy will continue to inspire women and young scholars across the country in their pursuit of knowledge, leadership, and national development with courage and integrity,” Tinubu stated.
He also offered prayers for continued good health, peace, and fulfillment for the celebrated octogenarian.
