The Lagos State Government has intensified its environmental enforcement drive, sealing two properties in Victoria Island over serious wastewater mismanagement and pollution offences.
The affected properties—Wealth Hotel and Kings Court, located at Nos. 3 and 5 Keystone Bank Crescent—were shut down on Wednesday by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO).
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the development via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the action followed verified environmental infractions that posed public health and sanitation risks.
According to Wahab, Kings Court was sanctioned after an unlicensed borehole driller illegally discharged sand wash-off into a drainage channel. The act led to blockages, causing wastewater to overflow onto adjoining roads and create environmental nuisance.
Wealth Hotel, on the other hand, was sealed following multiple confirmed complaints from residents. Investigations revealed the deliberate discharge of faecal matter into the public drainage system, a violation described as severe and hazardous.
Reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental violations, Wahab urged residents and business operators to comply strictly with wastewater management regulations. He warned that defaulters would face sanctions, including prosecution under the law.
The enforcement underscores Lagos State’s ongoing efforts to curb pollution and maintain environmental safety across the metropolis.
