VDM vs Blessing CEO: Police Launch Probe Over Alleged Fake Cancer Claim Scandal

Popular Nigerian social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has confirmed that the petition he filed against controversial relationship therapist Blessing Okoro, also known as Blessing CEO, has been officially approved for investigation by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The development follows intense public backlash over Blessing CEO’s earlier claim that she was battling stage four cancer.

On March 25, 2026, Blessing CEO posted a viral video on Instagram where she tearfully alleged she had been diagnosed with advanced cancer. In the clip, she appeared with shaved hair, attributing her condition to the illness. She also disclosed that she had begun selling off personal properties to fund her treatment, prompting an outpouring of sympathy and donations from the public.

However, the narrative shifted dramatically after the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Delta State chapter, discredited a histology report circulating online in support of her claims. According to the association, the document had allegedly been altered from an original report belonging to another patient diagnosed with breast cancer.

The report had initially been shared by Blessing CEO as proof while appealing for financial assistance.

Amid mounting criticism and accusations of deception, Blessing CEO later recanted her claim, stating in an interview, “I don’t have stage four cancer. That was a miscommunication.” She also revealed that she received a total of ₦13 million in donations before deactivating her social media account.

Reacting to the controversy, VDM disclosed that he was among those who donated, saying he was moved by compassion after watching her emotional video.

“I believed her because she shaved her hair and I felt compassion. That day, I didn’t have anything left in my account, but I still sent money,” he said.

Expressing frustration, he noted that the situation undermines genuine cancer patients who rely on public empathy and support.

“There are many people truly battling cancer. It’s wrong for anyone to make light of such a serious issue,” he added.

VDM confirmed that he has formally submitted a petition to the police, adding that the IGP has now assigned the case for investigation, marking a significant step in what is quickly becoming one of Nigeria’s most talked-about social media controversies.
