President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside governors of the 19 northern states and other prominent Nigerians, has extended heartfelt condolences to Professor Attahiru Jega following the death of his wife, Hajiya Hadiza Jega.
The late matriarch passed away on Sunday and was buried in accordance with Islamic rites, drawing sympathisers from across the country. The janazah prayer was held at the National Mosque Abuja, where Vice President Kashim Shettimarepresented the President.
In his condolence message, Tinubu described the deceased as a woman of grace, resilience, and quiet strength, noting her unwavering support for her husband throughout decades of public service, including his tenure at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President also acknowledged her contributions to education and community development, describing her impact as subtle yet far-reaching.
In a personal message to Jega, Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his spouse of over 40 years, offering prayers for her eternal rest and strength for the grieving family.

Also joining in mourning, the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), led by Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, conveyed collective condolences from the region’s 19 governors.
Governor Yahaya described Hajiya Hadiza’s passing as a profound loss, not just to her immediate family but to all who were touched by her humility, compassion, and devotion to family values. He urged the bereaved family to find comfort in her legacy of kindness and faith.
Similarly, former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani expressed grief over the loss, describing it as a painful moment for the Jega family. He offered prayers for her soul and strength for those she left behind.
