Rwanda’s law enforcement authorities have cautioned Nigerian content creator Joe Bassey against filming videos on active roadways after he shared a clip highlighting the country’s cleanliness while seated on a road.
In the now-viral video, Bassey was seen sitting on a roadway as he praised Rwanda’s orderly environment a gesture many online users interpreted as a bold demonstration of public discipline and safety.
However, reacting via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Rwanda National Police acknowledged the positive intent behind the video but stressed that recording content on active roads violates traffic safety regulations.
Hello, while we appreciate the good intentions behind this clip, recording content in the roadway is unsafe and violates road safety regulations, as it puts road users at risk. For everyone’s safety, we advise that filming be done in safe areas. Thank you,” the statement read.
The police emphasised that such actions could endanger both the individual involved and other road users, urging content creators to prioritise safety and comply with existing regulations when producing online content.
The development has sparked conversations online about responsible content creation and adherence to local laws, particularly for influencers filming in foreign countries.
