Popular Nigerian Gospel Musician Bunmi Akinnaanu (aka Omije Oju Mi) Dies After Battle With Illness

Veteran gospel music minister Bunmi Akinnaanu-Adeoye, widely known by her stage name Omije Oju Mi, has died after a protracted bout with an undisclosed ailment, multiple entertainment sources have confirmed. Omije Oju Mi, whose music touched countless lives across Nigeria and the diaspora, passed away in the early hours of today, January 13, 2026, after struggling with health challenges in recent months.

The singer rose to prominence with the deeply emotive and spiritually resonant hit single “Omije Oju Mi”, which became an anthem of faith and hope for many church congregations and gospel music listeners. Over her career, she built a reputation for powerful worship music that often bridged traditional gospel sensibilities with contemporary expression.

In late 2025, videos and social media posts stirred national concern when Akinnaanu was seen visibly in distress due to serious health challenges, including a leg ailment that prompted viral calls for prayers and financial support. Fellow gospel artists and industry colleagues made public appeals to assist with her medical care and offered prayer vigils for her recovery.

Despite the outpouring of support and widespread prayers from fans, church communities, and fellow musicians, her condition worsened in the ensuing weeks. Today’s confirmation of her passing marks the end of an inspiring journey that began in church choirs and culminated in national recognition.

Tributes are already emerging across social media and entertainment platforms, with admirers recalling her contributions to gospel music and ministry. Many reflect on how her voice and message brought comfort, encouragement, and spiritual upliftment to believers across different generations. Early reports indicate that details about funeral arrangements and official statements from her family or management will be shared in due course.

Bunmi Akinnaanu’s legacy will be remembered through her music—especially Omije Oju Mi—and the countless lives she impacted through her ministry. Her death is a profound loss to the gospel music community and to many who found solace in her songs.
