Anambra Police arrest three suspects in separate defilement cases involving minors; prosecution set for September 3, 2025, amid strong condemnation
The Anambra Police have arrested three suspects implicated in separate defilement cases involving minors aged five to fourteen.

The suspects were apprehended in different areas of the state, including Eziowele, Oba, and Ogidi.

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Command’s spokesman, the suspects were detained following thorough investigations by the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Gender Unit.
Ihechiluru Okorie, arrested on August 19, 2025, at Oba Division, allegedly defiled a 14-year-old girl who came to his barbing salon.

Chidubem Udem, 28, was arrested on August 13, 2025, by Eziowelle Division police for defiling a five-year-old girl at her grandmother’s home. A medical examination confirmed the assault.
Kalu Ilo, 30, was arrested on August 28, 2025, by Ogidi police for defiling the 13-year-old mentally challenged daughter of his neighbour in Nkpor.
All suspects remain in police custody and are scheduled to face court on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, strongly condemned the acts and assured that the Command would prosecute the suspects rigorously to ensure justice.
CP Orutugu also urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain vigilant and report any incidents of sexual or gender-based violence promptly.

“The Command remains committed to protecting the rights of children and vulnerable persons across the State,” the statement concluded.
