The House of Representatives has referred Alex Ikwechegh to the Ethics and Privileges Committee for his conduct, following an incident where he was recorded assaulting an Uber driver.
The House of Representatives has referred Alex Ikwechegh, the member representing Aba South/Aba North Federal Constituency in Abia State, to its Ethics and Privileges Committee for further legislative action.
This decision was made after the House adopted a motion of privilege moved by House Leader, Prof Julius Ihonvbere, during Tuesday’s plenary session.

Ihonvbere brought to the House’s attention a video that surfaced on Sunday, showing Ikwechegh assaulting an Uber driver and threatening to make him “disappear” without facing any consequences.
This conduct, Ihonvbere noted, has brought the integrity of the Green Chamber into disrepute.
In response to the uproar, Ikwechegh expressed remorse and apologised to his colleagues during the session, saying simply, “I’m sorry.”
However, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the session in the absence of Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, determined that the severity of the situation warranted further investigation.
Kalu stated, “We are guided by our rules. Our rule is that if the dignity of the parliament is ridiculed, we investigate through the eyes of justice.
It is not good for us to judge. Ikwechegh’s appeal was very emotional, touching, and remorseful. But that is not enough. Our rules must be complied with.”
As a result, Ikwechegh has been directed to appear before the Ethics and Privileges Committee to address the allegations against him.
