The remains of the deceased journalist, Gbenga Davies, had been committed to mother earth at a brief ceremony in the capital city of Ogun State today.

Gbenga, who was survived by wives and four children, died of cardiac arrest while on a night out with friends to see a football match at the age of 46years.

The burial rite, which witnessed a large turnout of his colleagues in the media industry, especially from Ogun and Lagos States, had in presence many other states representatives.

The former journalist’s remains left the mortuary in the early hours of Wednesday, August 14, 2019 and was accompanied to the NUJ Secretariat, Iwe Iroyin House, at Abeokuta, where colleagues and invited pastors paid tributes to the departed, before he was eventually buried at the Kobape Cemetery situated at the outskirt of the ancient city of Abeokuta.

Friends and family at the event were admonished to always live each day as if it is the last by the officiating pastor.

Gbenga had his secondary school education at Festac Grammar School, Lagos and proceeded to Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic) in Abeokuta, where he studied accounting. Though he would later choose a career in journalism, a profession he had passion for due to his closeness to his brother, the ace journalist, Otunba Femi Davies.

To many, Gbenga’s death has created a great gap in their hearts, while stating that Gbengene, as he was fondly called by associates, would be greatly missed.
