The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Abdulsalam Abdulkareem, the Kano state governorship candidate for the Green Party of Nigeria, for allegedly obtaining $1,320,000 (N475m) by false pretences.
Abdulkareem was arraigned alongside Ebere Nzekwe and charged with nine count charges bordering on fraud and obatining money by false pretences, The Punch reports.
One of the counts reads: “That you Abdulkareem Saleh Abdulsalam, Ebere Nzechukwu (aka General Aria), Michael Edosa (at large), sometime in August 2014, in Kano, within the Kano Judicial Division of the High Court, with intent to defraud, conspired to obtain the total sum $1,320,000 from Dr Jamman Al-Azmi when you represented that you have the capacity to partner him for joint venture business, which representation you knew to be false, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006, and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.’’
Both Abdukareem and Nzekwe pleaded guilty to the charges.
Meanwhile, we earlier reported that the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo state, Hope Uzodinma, has been arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Sunday, November 8, over an alleged breach of contract worth $12m.
The Special Presidential Investigation Panel For Recovery of Public Property said its operatives arrested Uzodinma, the senator representing Imo West senatorial district, for a breach of contract after his company allegedly failed to execute a contract of $12m for the dredging of Calabar channel.
