2019: Remove All Security Chiefs Or Get Out, Nigerians tell Buhari

The killings of an estimated 200 persons in Plateau State have received continuous outrage from Nigerians on various social media platforms, many of whom are demanding for the immediate removal of all security chiefs in the country.

According to them, President Muhammad Buhari has no reason to keep the security chiefs after the numerous killings witnessed in the country.

They argued that refusal to sack all the security chiefs by President Buhari meant that he was pleased with the killings.

Others said his refusal could be translated to mean that he was truly in support of some of the wayward herdsmen involved in killings in the country.

If the President refuses to yield to their demand, they vowed to ‘sack’ him in 2019, when he would be seeking re-election.

It will be recalled that President Buhari had on Tuesday visited Jos, where he directed the chiefs of security agencies in the country to remain vigilant and to ensure that the lives and property of Nigerians were protected.

In a related development, security operatives claimed that 16 suspects have been arrested in connection to the killings of about 200 people, mainly locals and farmers on June 24.

11 villages in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area and its environs were affected in the onslaught in which property worth billions of naira were also destroyed.

One of the social commentators, Apostle David Odi‏ @ApostleDavidOdi said: “All Service Chiefs must be sacked immediately otherwise it justifies the claim that this is State sponsored religious and ethnic cleansing!”

But some of the critics blamed the current principle of federal character for the challenges witnessed in the Nigeria security sector.

God & Me ?? ??‏ @shola_olushola added: “The consequence is the result of Federal Character, it encourages mediocrity. Imagine if those that joined the military/police/DSS are the best in their schools. The forces would have had more professionals than these bunch that are out of ideas.”

They subsequently asked the President to stop apportioning blames, expressing their disappointment at his reactions to some of the killings.

prigemconcepts .Ng‏ @Prigemconcepts said: “Apportioning blame may not be in anyone’s best interest right now, but maybe re-jigging the security apparatus for an effective/efficient/reliable security architecture will do.@Mbuhari @ProfOsinbajo how about personnel changes at the top. Preemptive against reactive measures.”

Dapo Olanrewaju‏ @Odapo said: “@MBuhari enough of the blame game and bulk passing lines. You’re the C-in-C, fix it! What beats me is how the service chiefs still have their jobs.”
