Soldiers in Cross River are reportedly demanding to see a valid means of identification from anyone entering or leaving the state

A very strong anti-terrorism policy has been issued by the Cross River state government.

According to Vanguard, the state government has directed that anyone coming in or going out of the state should provide a valid ID or staff ID card to prove that he/she is a Nigerian or Cross River citizen.

It was gathers that a village chief, Onun Igeriga, disclosed that Nigerian soldiers are taking measures to ensure that security is maintained all over the boundaries between Cross River and other states.

The chief stated that the troops are making sure that there is no suspicious entry into the state, or any terrorist activity.

Some angry passengers traveling from Ugep to Lagos however expressed frustration with the development; stating that they had been asked by the soldiers to show their ID cards and introduce themselves.

According to one Edet Bassey, for failing to provide his ID card, he was asked to go back, after reaching the boundary between Cross River and Ebonyi.

Meanwhile, a Cameroonian soldier allegedly killed a Nigerian fisherman from the border community of Mfum in Cross River state.

According to a certain Alan Bassey who identified himself as a resident of Mfum, the unfortunate incident took place at a river along the border. Bassey further disclosed that Nigerians were usually targeted across the river as Cameroonian soldiers engaged in continuous shooting.

Residents of the area raised grave concerns over the actions of the Cameroonians which they said could lead to problems between both countries. They urged the Nigerian federal government to take necessary actions and also called on the security agencies to protect lives and properties of people in the country.
