A Labour leader in Kogi State, Mallam Abdulmumuni Yakubu, has been killed in Okene, Kogi State by unknown gunmen.
It was gathered from eyewitness that the assassination was carried out by gunmen numbering about two shortly after the deceased observed his evening prayer in his house on Wednesday.
Late Mallam Abdulmumuni before his death was the branch chairman Non-Academic Staff Union of Science Technology Technical Education Board (STTEB).
Condemning the incident, the Kogi State chairman Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institute Sheik Mamman Mammab expressed worries over what he described as the spate of brutal killing in Kogi State.
He said the deceased was an active labour leader who fought tirelessly for the emancipation of workers in the state.
ā€ The family of Mallam Abdulmumuni is still in shock with this sad news. He was among other labour leaders in Kogi State working tooth and nail to see that workers are paid their salaries.
ā€ Now he is gone. I’m calling on security agencies to bring perpetrators of this heinous act to book.ā€
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya, said investigations were ongoing to track down the hoodlums from their hiding place.
The deceased has since been buried according to Islamic rite.
