Veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri has recalled the emotional final moments he shared with his longtime friend and colleague, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, shortly before the actor’s death.
Quadri disclosed that their last communication took place during a visit to Ogogo at the hospital, where he was receiving treatment.
In a tribute shared on social media, Quadri said he could not hold back his tears when he saw Ogogo lying on the hospital bed. However, the late actor tried to reassure him that he would be fine.
According to Quadri, Ogogo looked at him and said, “Yinka, don’t cry. Nothing bad will happen to me.”
The veteran actor said he responded, “Yes, Amen.”
Reflecting on the moment, Quadri said he knew deep down that Ogogo did not want to die and that his passing had come sooner than expected.
“I will never forget the last time I saw you at the hospital. You were lying on your sick bed, and when I saw you, I could not hold back my tears. You looked at me and said, ‘Yinka, don’t cry. Nothing bad will happen to me.’ I responded, ‘Yes, Amen.’ Deep down, I know this was not your wish to leave us so soon,” he wrote.
Quadri also expressed gratitude to God for Ogogo’s life, saying the late actor did not endure a prolonged health struggle that could have placed additional financial pressure on his family and loved ones.
He prayed for the forgiveness of Ogogo’s shortcomings while describing him as a bosom friend whose life was filled with meaningful memories.
Quadri further revealed that his friendship with Ogogo dated back to 1984, noting that their relationship grew stronger despite attempts by some individuals to create a rift between them.
According to him, neither actor publicly spoke against the other, despite occasional rumours that they were at odds.
“We have known each other since 1984 and with time, our friendship grew beyond ordinary. Many people tried to create a distance between us but God never allowed it,” Quadri said.
He added that Ogogo’s death had created an emotional void that would be difficult to fill.
Quadri said he would forever treasure the memories they created together, including their laughter, journeys, movie locations and disagreements that they managed to overcome.
“You may have left this world but you will never leave my heart,” he said.
Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after reportedly battling stage-four cancer.
The veteran actor was buried in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 24, according to Islamic rites.
