The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as false reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima may be replaced as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described the reports and the speculation surrounding potential replacements as unfounded and misleading.

“Our attention has been drawn to a growing media frenzy about the possible replacement of Vice President Kashim Shettima as the running mate to President Bola Tinubu under the platform of our great party ahead of the 2027 general election,” Morka said.
He noted that while earlier reports were largely subtle, the rumours had recently escalated to the point where names of specific individuals were being floated as possible alternatives to the Vice President.
The APC spokesman stressed that such narratives were “purely speculative, untrue, and utterly baseless,” adding that the party had taken no steps and held no discussions regarding any change to the Tinubu–Shettima ticket.
The party also cautioned media organisations against giving space to rumour-peddlers and what it described as mischievous sources intent on sowing discord and confusion in the polity.
Reiterating that existing laws and electoral regulations banning premature political activities remain in force, the APC said its current priority is governance, not politicking.
“At this time, our party remains focused on supporting President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda and entrenching bold reforms that are steadily transforming the economy, building prosperity, and improving the living conditions of our people,” the statement added.
The APC further urged ministers, senior government officials, and party leaders to avoid actions or comments that could fuel unnecessary speculation.
Instead, they were advised to concentrate on diligent service to government and the party, while strengthening public confidence in the leadership and achievements of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima.
