A peace accord has been signed by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Isa Ashiru, and other gubernatorial candidates in the state.

We reported that the governorship candidates signed the peace accord on Tuesday, February 5, as Nigerians prepare for the 2019 general elections.

We gathers that the peace accord, which was signed at the police headquarters along Bida road in the state capital, is to ensure the conduct of free, fair and credible general elections in the state.

The state police commissioner, Ahmad Abdulrahman, promised that the Force would be fair to all political parties in the state before, during and after the elections.

According to him, a violence-free election is a fundamental means to a sustainable peace and development.

He said: “Peace Accord signifies our respective commitment to peace and symbolises respect for the rule of law.

“I want to suggest that candidates and supporters must accept the outcome as announced by the constituted authorities, rather than make trouble because the results are not in one’s favour.

“Let us prepare our minds to accept the results for the sake of our dear nation. While those who will emerge as winners, must not allow themselves and their supporters when jubilating to tease and provoke the other sides.”

Meanwhile, we previously reported that Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state promised to pay traditional rulers and district heads security allowance which is expected to help them discharge their responsibility in gathering intelligence.

The governor spoke at a stakeholder’s meeting on Sunday, February 3, where he said the state ministry of local government affairs would come up with a template for payment of the proposed allowance.

The governor also said his plan for every major town in Kaduna state is to make sure it “has a good school, good healthcare facility, electricity and potable drinking water.”
