The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of 11 persons in a fatal road crash along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.
The Sector Commander of FRSC Enugu State Command, Franklin Agbakoba, disclosed this to journalists in Enugu on Saturday night, following the collision involving a commercial bus and an articulated trailer.
According to Agbakoba, the accident occurred at about 6:46 p.m. near the FRSC Ozalla Unit Command along the busy expressway.

Casualties and Injuries
A total of 36 persons were involved in the crash, which occurred between a Toyota Coaster commercial bus and a Mercedes-Benz articulated trailer.
“Eleven persons — 10 males and one female — lost their lives in the accident,” the sector commander said.

Seven others, comprising three males and four females, sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku-Ozalla, for medical treatment.
The remains of the deceased were deposited at the UNTH morgue.
Cause Under Investigation
Agbakoba said preliminary investigations point to Route Traffic Violation (RTV) and Loss of Control (LOC) as possible causes of the tragic crash.
He added that FRSC operatives swiftly responded to the scene, rescuing victims and clearing the obstruction caused by the accident.
“We have restored free flow of vehicular traffic on the accident axis of the expressway,” he said, commending officers and marshals of the Ozalla Unit Command for their prompt intervention.
The FRSC boss assured that further details would be made public as investigations continue.
The Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway remains one of the busiest highways in the South-East, frequently recording heavy vehicular movement and, at times, fatal crashes.
